   Ensure that wherever you start when you are at the ticketing location, you select to combine your train fare with the AirTrain fare for the Newark International Airport. General fares may differ on the season, and the AirTrain website fares are out of date wildly. There's a QR code that the turnstile will need to get you past and into the station later, that is only available on one of these tickets.

   Arrive at the Newark Airport Amtrak Train Station. Although this airport stop is on Amtrak's Northeast Regional and Acela lines, two New Jersey Transit's (NJT's) routes stop here - including the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast railway lines.^[1]

   • Amtrak passengers get a benefit that those riding New Jersey Transit won't - and will be described momentarily.^[2]

   Get out at this stop. (Later on, you'll want to learn its alternate terminology when coming back to this station: it's often known as the RailLink station.) Collect your bags and other family members and get out of the train. The platform will meet up with you, and all you will have to do is walk out of the train onto the platform - no steps involved.

   Wear a mask as you make your way to the AirTrain. Those coming in from the train will be told to wear their mask anyway, but that continues up at the AirTrain level too.

   Follow signs towards the "AirTrain to Terminals" walkway. Arrivals on the southbound only side (towards the beginning of the day) will give you faster access to the stairs and escalator over on your right, but continue going straight and head towards the elevators if necessary.

   Take a right at the top of the stairs, and continue walking towards the AirTrain with these same signs "AirTrain to Terminals."

   Scan your ticket into the technologically-advanced turnstiles.

   • Those arriving here on Amtrak get a free ride to the airport via the AirTrain - as long as their final destination on their ticket is this airport stop and is noted as such. You will need to show the ticket takers/checkers this information to get your ride to the airport.^[3]
   • Those arriving on New Jersey Transit must pay their fares when they pick up their tickets at their train departure station and must say they are heading to this stop!
   • You will not be able to get out and over to get into the airport parking lot nearby, as it is a secured parking lot that only ticketed parkers have access to. There are electric fences if you can sneak out and down near the lot, so avoid it at all costs.

   Continue to follow signage to get you to the AirTrain. You'll have to go down a flight of stairs or an escalator.

   • There should be an elevator nearby but out of sight of most guests.

   Make your way into the hallway of the AirTrain as you continue walking. The walking path after the stairs will terminate at the AirTrain stop after about 200 feet. You'll see two sides - one side displaying "Board here for all stations" - the side you'll want to ride on. The other side will say "Board here for parking" and won't be the side you'll need to get on since it's sending you back the other way.

    Learn about the AirTrain terminals here. The AirTrain terminals aren't wide - however, they have glass windows that give you a full perspective of the outside world. They have a few benches inside, but most people enjoy standing and waiting for their AirTrain to arrive.

    Wait for the train to come. Try to practice the six-foot social distancing rules - conserving space along the way.

    Let the doors open and those exiting riders to step out. Do not force the entrance/exit doors to open at any time. Doing so risks significant injury. Both the train and station doors leading to the train are technological, and there's no conductor on board "driving" the train, so that train's not going to stop when it's trained to take off if the doors pull shut tight enough.

    • Holding the doors open will be accompanied by a loud buzz that's almost like the carnival games at a fairground's Midway.

    Prepare to board. Get in when the last few people step out, and try to find a seat quickly. If there are no seats, grab a handrail above your head and hold on.

    • For those who love to look out, try to get a front cabin view at the farthest end of the doors on that side and head in quickly. There will many people vying for that righteous spot in the cabin.

    Watch out the side and/or front windows as you hover over several things. In the distance at first, you'll spot the airport and its massive parking lot. But as the AirTrain begins moving, you'll pass over the faster-moving US-1/US-9 roadway, which will lead over Brewster Rd (the official addressed street of the airport) and right into the airport through the P4 parking lot level, then Terminal C, Terminal B, and Terminal A (making each stop along the way).^[4]

    • Continuing on the AirTrain will take you to the P3 (Daily Parking/Rental Cars) and P2 (other rental car services) parking areas.^[5]

    Look for signage to the terminal entrances. Each terminal has different signage and different directions, so follow signage accordingly.

• If you've been on the JFK AirTrain, this AirTrain travels a little slower, but there's fewer terminal stops involved here - so the ride will seem shorter.

• Approximate travel times differ. However, plan on 40 minutes to get from the train station to Terminal B, and a little more for Terminal A and P3/P2, but this depends on the time of day and each AirTrains' availability.

• There's no direct link to the P6 parking lots in direct contact with the AirTrain. However, you can head to the Courtesy Shuttles at the terminals themselves and head there, telling your shuttle driver you parked in P6.^[6]

• Walking to the airport from the train station without getting on the AirTrain is not permitted, and with the busy streets, you really wouldn't want to do so. There is no parking available, and there's also no spot where an Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare location can get to pick you up - so the navigating is all on you! (Sorry.)

  • If you must drive to the airport or need help navigating or a rideshare car to get you there, consider getting out at Newark's Penn Station and heading there that way. However, you still cannot walk to this airport from this station either, as it is quite a bit further north.
