Where is the crankcase pressure sensor on a 2013 Paccar MX 13? ›

Below the fuel filter module. It's really not all that easy to see as it is located behind the framerail. The CCV module is on the left front of the engine behind and below the alternator. There is a small pipe off the CCV pressure pipe which feeds the sensor.

It may be due to an electrical issue within the Crankcase Pressure Sensor, because of physical or electrical damage to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve, clogs within the PCV system as a whole, or even water intrusion in the crankcase.

Symptoms to look out for include poor fuel economy, gasket leaks, and an illuminated check engine light.

Not only can you measure crankcase pressure with a vacuum gauge or manometer, you can also use an accurate pressure transducer such as a Pico WPS500 to measure crankcase pressure with a scope.

The Crankcase Pressure Sensor tells the engine control module (PCM) how much pressure is building up inside the engine. If the PCM detects an incorrect signal from the Crankcase Pressure Sensor, the PCM will set code P051B. A vehicle with this code should be taken in to a repair shop for diagnosis.

Once clogged, it provides a false reading to the machine's brain, the ECU. I would remove this tube and the sensor itself, and clean it with a contact cleaner and compressed air. Once scoured, your machine should run crisp and clean.

Some common symptoms of a bad crankshaft position sensor are an illuminated check engine light, hard starting, and misfires. A bad crankshaft position sensor can prevent your vehicle from starting and leave you stranded somewhere, so it's best not to drive until you fix this part.

Engine misfires – If the crankshaft position sensor is not functioning properly, it can cause the engine to misfire. This can be due to an incorrect signal being sent to the computer, or no signal at all. Rough idling – Another symptom of a faulty crankshaft position sensor is rough idling.

Oil leaks and an illuminated check engine light are indicators of a clogged crankcase filter.

Crankcase pressure can be managed by using the engine's intake as a vacuum source (CCV) or an external vacuum source such as a regenerative blower (OCV).

A PCV valve that is clogged or stuck in the closed position will allow crankcase pressure to build. This can cause oil to leak through gaskets and seals. It can also force oil into the air cleaner assembly.
